Where and when can I ride a Voi in south Hampshire and the Isle of Wight?

Jun 25, 2024

You can now ride Voi e-scooters and Voi e-bikes in Portsmouth, Southampton and on the Isle of Wight from 1 July 2024. It’s the same app for bikes and scooters in all Voi locations. Voi is now the sole operator for rental e-scooters and e-bikes in Portsmouth, Southampton and on the Isle of Wight. We’re really excited to bring our industry-leading e-bikes to the region.

You can ride with us 24/7 on the Isle of Wight, from 4am to midnight in Southampton and from 4am to 10pm in Portsmouth.

Is there an age limit?

Anyone over the age of 16 can ride with Voi on the Isle of Wight. You must be aged 18 or older to use Voi e-scooters in Portsmouth and Southampton. You will need a provisional or full driving licence in order to sign up to ride e-scooters, but you don’t need one for e-bikes.

How do I sign up to Voi?

It’s really easy! Just download our app and follow the instructions. To use e-scooters, you’ll be asked to upload a photo of your driving licence and then to take a selfie to verify that you’re the person in the picture. You don’t need a driving licence to ride our e-bikes so you can skip the upload driving licence if you’re just going to ridie an e- bike. You’re not allowed to share your account with anyone - and most definitely not your children or any underage person.

As part of the sign-up process, we give you some useful safety instructions. You can also complete our RideSafe Academy traffic school.

How do I ride an e-scooter or e-bike?

Watch our videos to see how to ride an e-scooter and an e-bike. We recommend you wear a helmet  when riding both e-scooters and e-bikes.

Can I park the e-scooter or e-bike wherever I like?

No, you can only park in set locations which are shown in the app - there should be one within a two or three minute walk of your destination. You can park at the previous operator’s parking which over the coming months will be re-branded by Voi. Please park considerately - don’t leave your Voi where it will be in the way of someone trying to use the pavement. Remember that blind people and people with sight loss can’t see if something is in their way and it’s not easy for a person in a wheelchair to get past vehicles if they’re blocking the pavement.

How much does it cost and how do I pay?

When you sign up to Voi, you’re asked to enter a payment method - either a bank card or Paypal. You can choose to buy a pass or just pay as you go. Details of all prices are on the app and the cost will be taken from your chosen payment method. Look out for special offers to celebrate expanding our service in south Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

From time to time, we'll post other special offers on the app, on the scooters or on our UK social media accounts, XInstagram and Facebook. There are also discounts available including for people on lower incomes, disabled people, students and NHS/Blue Light workers. Find out more on our website.

We’re sure you’ll soon find using a Voi in south Hampshire and the Isle of Wight is easy and affordable too.

Happy riding!
