How can we help?

Why is there an additional reserved amount or pending transaction from Voi on my payment method?

Jan 28, 2025

There are several reasons why Voi may temporarily reserve an amount against your payment method, as outlined below:

  • Adding a new payment method to the Voi app: This is commonly known as a card check. A card check is a small transaction used to verify that your card details are valid and active. It is a standard practice among companies to ensure valid payment details are provided. Voi will carry out the card check when you unlock the vehicle.

  • Changing your default payment method: Similar to the first point, if you change your default payment method, we will perform a card check at the time of unlocking to ensure the payment method is active.

  • Vehicle deposit: For some customers, depending on your payment method, a deposit may be taken when unlocking one of our vehicles. This is done to ensure sufficient funds are available to cover the cost of the ride.

  • Group ride: If you have taken a group ride where you unlocked multiple vehicles, you may see multiple reserved amounts on your payment method.

  • A failed transaction from a previous ride: If your last transaction with Voi was unsuccessful, and you attempt to unlock another vehicle, this could result in a reserved amount.

  • Switching from a Voi Pass to PAYG (Pay As You Go): If you’ve previously been a subscriber of our Voi monthly pass and you switch to PAYG, Voi may need to perform the necessary checks on your payment method, which may result in you seeing a reserved amount registered at your financial institute.

The value of the reserved amounts may vary between £4, £5, or £7.50 / €4, €5 or €7.50 / 50 SEK, 50 NOK, 50 DKK.

Important to note:

If the cost of your ride was less than the reserved amount, the difference will be released by Voi immediately. However, this may not be reflected on your payment method until 1 to 7 business days have passed. If the reserved amount is still visible after 7 business days, we recommend contacting your financial provider for further information.
