McKay Thomas, CEO

Born in Glendale, CA, but raised across Washington, Idaho and Utah. He got his start early selling homemade toys to schoolmates in 3rd grade. At 17, while still in high school, he helped start a call center to help people refinance their FHA loans. At 18, just before leaving on a two-year Mormon mission to England, he helped start now America’s largest online pool table retailer PoolTables.com. After exiting that venture, he moved to Sao Paulo, Brazil where he co-founded Baby.com.br and Dinda.com.br, two of the largest ecommerce companies in their spaces in Brazil. In Jan 2013, he moved from SP to SF to start First Opinion. As an adventure traveler he’s been a part of several feats, including in 2015, when he was part of the first kayak expedition to paddle from Cuba to Florida.

Rachel Steed, Senior Product Manager

Rachel joined First Opinion from Altius Education, an edtech startup, in 2013. She was team member number 5 and joined prior to launch. Starting with daily operations, she worked with both the development team and the doctor network, writing the first version of the training program still in use today. As needs evolved, her role grew to various areas including usability testing, customer feedback, doctor recruiting, quality assurance, development process management and keeping the team sane with her lovely morning vocals. Her ability to focus on the problem and work with others to discover solutions together led her to establish the process for guiding product decisions within First Opinion.
